The Burlington Public Schools EdTech Team has hosted the Massachusetts Digital Publication Collaborative for the past two years in an effort to provide educators from around New England with support for curating and creating digital content. Our team believes that educators must work together to build powerful digital curriculum materials and resources that can be shared and edited by anyone across the country. We hope to break down the isolation of educational content creation and provide educators with the skills needed to build digital content as well as the time to collaborate with each other.

Please join us for #MADPC 2013 at Marshall Simonds Middle School in Burlington, MA. The FREE event will feature curation and collaboration time for educators, professional development sessions, application demonstrations, and prizes.

Check out the #MADPC event site for more details.

Digital Storytelling in the Classom
Limited Capacity seats available

Plato was wise when he said, “Those who tell stories rule society.” In this workshop, we review the elements of a good story. Teachers will create digital stories using 30hands Mobile or their app of choice. We start by cultivating ideas online. During the workshop, we continue by creating a script or storyboard, creating the story or presentation in the app, previewing and editing the story and finally, presenting the final product if there is time.

Open Educational Resources (OER) 101

Over the course of educational timelines, the textbook has reigned as the authority in content delivery. The textbook's reign has gone unmatched for many years, but its pedestal is beginning to wobble. This is not to say that credible information is no longer in bound books, rather that credible information options have taken on many new forms.

Over the past two years, Andy Marcinek has been working with the teachers in Burlington Public Schools to transition from the popular textbook towards Open Educational Resources, or OER. One of the leading benefits of OER options is that they are free and open to educators. That in itself is a reason to inquire. The information has been vetted for credibility and some of it is derived from some of the world's top colleges and universities.

This session will introduce attendees to OER outlets and provide a primer for using them in your classroom.
